Housepitality’s interview with Sishi Rösch (Get Physical, Digital Delight)

Next week, Housepitality’s guest is Sishi Rösch, a Barcelona-based DJ/producer and record label boss who has been making major waves – along with his friend and collaborator Miguel Puente – in the underground house music world. As a solo producer, and together as Puente & Rösch, Sishi’s love of 80’s music, west coast hip-hop vocals, huge fat synth basslines, and R&B, shines through to create a unique sound that has been described as “intergalactic gangsta house” or “gangster disco.” Major players in the industry have taken notice, and productions have been released on many respected labels of the moment (Get Physical, No. 19, Get The Curse). In addition to creating music and DJing all over the globe, Rösch has found the time to run a couple of successful dance music labels along with co-conspirator Diego Moreno: Sultry Vibes and Digital Delight.

Housepitality managed to catch up with Sishi via email in preparation for his upcoming appearance, to answer some questions about his production tools, Barcelona music, and what sorts of food we might have to find for him in SF. Check out the interview below, and don’t miss his SF debut!
Housepitality: Outside of Barcelona, what have been your favorite places/venues to play?
Sishi: Oh wow, what a tough question… I definitely love playing Miami and London, these two cities have a special place in my heart, wicked vibes all around, I really enjoy playing them.
Housepitality: What is your go-to gear for production right now? Ableton? Pro Tools? Hardware?
Sishi: I’m a Logic and Hardware freak. I have a Juno 106 at home and most of my production sounds come from this amazing synth. There are a couple of VST’s as well that I use for basslines mostly. As for software, I always have worked on Logic, it’s such an awesome program to work with if you know what you are doing.
Housepitality: There are many DJ/production duos operating right now (Thugfucker, Pan-pot, Ame, M.A.N.D.Y., to name a few). Do you feel that there are advantages to making/playing music with a partner, over producing music solo?
Sishi: Well, I think that really depends on how well you work with your production partner. From personal experience, I tend to work really well with my homies Miguel Puente and Jesse Perez. We just seem to have this magic when we produce together. Definitely there are some advantages over producing solo, as there are more ideas when you have 2 heads working together.
Housepitality: So much good music has been coming out of Barcelona recently. Other than you and Miguel, who, in your opinion, are some artists to pay attention to?
Sishi: My label mate Diego Moreno is making some wicked stuff at the moment, really digging his music. Also my homie Lee Webster is always on point.
Housepitality: Outside of Barcelona, who is inspiring you right now, first, as a producer, and secondly, as a DJ?
Sishi: I would have to say Leroy Jackson. This dude is definitely one to watch. Amazing DJ and Producer.
Housepitality: What is your favorite food to eat at home? And what food are you excited to try here in San Francisco?
Sishi: I’m such a big fan of food. I’m really enjoying a lot of Asian dishes at the moment. But I really love all kinds of food. The food I am looking forward to eating in SF, would probably have to be seafood. I love seafood, last time I was in SF I had some really tasty dishes.
