Stefan Goldmann

Changing techno from within, Stefan Goldmann has created his uniquely own version of contemporary art music. Neither constrained by the pitfalls of academism nor those of electronic club music functionality, his work topics range from micro details of production to macro concepts of exposing terminal points of entire musical genres or technical formats. His investigation into remixing might serve as an example here, including both, a remix that does not change the score at all while cutting up dozens of recordings (Stravinsky: Le Sacre Du Printemps), and one that replaces every sound bit until the original work is no longer present except for a ghostly structural shadow (Fennesz: Remiksz).

Stefan Goldmann judges concepts by the results they allow. Ideas that read well on paper but don’t create relevant results are bypassed. Similarly, he has avoided covering all areas available. Especially where others already excel, he has been happy to step aside or to act as a catalyst only. This is preeminently true for his label Macro, founded in 2007 with Finn Johannsen, which built a group of peers rather than gathering artistic followers. For instance, Macro has become the home for the recorded output of Elektro Guzzi, which have emerged as the leading act of performing techno with live instruments. Similarly, Macro has released music by artists with a long track record and strong standing of their own, such as Patrick Cowley and Peter Kruder. Showcasing the work of individuals covering different areas of a greater whole at benchmark-setting levels is the beauty of Macro’s label concept. Live, these constellations have been presented at label events in Berlin, London, Paris, Vienna and Tokyo. With Macro, Stefan Goldmann has created a context and outlet for his ever moving targets.

Outside the club circuit he has developed works for Nationaltheater Mannheim, the Honen-In Temple in Kyoto, BASF Kulturprogramm, the Norwegian section of ISCM and several other festivals and institutions. In 2012 he was artist in residence at Villa Kamogawa in Kyoto, Japan. Currently, he also writes a bi-monthly column for Berghain’s flyer program.

Mozaic

DJ, vocalist & producer hailing from San Francisco. On any given weekend, if he’s not behind the decks you’ll likely find him on a dancefloor somewhere, which is what makes the 10-year-plus veteran a dancer’s DJ. Mozaic has built a reputation on solid mixing and fearless genre-hopping: “lowrider techno”, hallucinogenic house, dubby disco, and deep garage all find their way into his arsenal- often within one set. His collaboration with EPROM (as Hookerz & Blow) has seen a release on Dirtybird Records, and recent remix work has been rinsed by everyone from Basement Jaxx to Jesse Rose to DJ Sneak to Pete Tong.

Victor Vega

Victor Vega, hailing from Jersey City via Northampton, has been part of the dance-music culture for the past 14 years studying media production, promotion, and learning the music. In 2004, Victor moved from Massachusetts to California to further his knowledge of event and music production, promotion, and DJing.
Some of Victor’s early dance influences were genres such as Latin and Acid House, Hip-Hop, R ’n’ B, World Beat music and such unlikely sounds as Classical and Classic Rock. During the last two and one-half years, Vega has honed his craft of sculpting the sounds of Electro, Tech House, keeping it dirty and juicy so that it makes you want to freaky deaky.

In moving to San Francisco and working with the Fringe Art Collective and Janky barge. Victor has enjoyed the honor of playing alongside artists such as The Juan McLain, Freestylers, Bassnectar, BLVD, Glitch Mob, Stanton Warriors, and DJ Icey in venues such as Poleng Lounge, Anu, Mighty, Rain Dance (Santa Cruz), Get Freaky @ 10:15, Burning Man, and Decompression. Victor countinues his quest for the last three years with the Housepitality Crew. In the coming years, Victor will be focusing further on music production and in utilizing more hardware technology to extend the fluidity of the mix, and continuing his quest for excellence in event-production for the ever-demanding public. Meanwhile, Vega doesn’t lose sight of the point of all this which is to bring people together to share common interests and participate in the evolution of the culture and, most importantly, to have fun.
