For this edition of Housepitality, we’re bringing back our founder, Michael “Mikey” Tello, to cap off a night of all-local (or formerly-local) talent. Mikey is one of SF’s greatest musical success stories. Originally from southern California, Mikey made SF his home, and, through years of throwing parties, DJing, and producing music, eventually used this city as a launchpad to an internationally successful career in music. As part of the band PillowTalk, along with Ryan Williams and Sammy D, Mikey’s musical talent was finally displayed to a worldwide audience. The next step after successfully touring internationally was starting a label, and Mikey wasted no time in beginning his label “Touch Of Class Records,” along with his friend and musical partner Ray Zuniga. Having since moved to New York in order to further his ambitions, Mikey is back in town, and is the clear choice to headline this night.
DJ Seven (aka Sean Evans) has been mastering the art of DJing for over 24 years. He’s a professional DJ, as hardworking as any in SF (perhaps more so), and has learned an encyclopedic amount about all genres of music, not just house. Sean also worked with Michael Tello back in 2007 to start Love It Wednesdays at Icon Lounge (now F8), which was the precursor to the Housepitality parties we know and love today. Sean has always supported us, and house music in SF in general, and he’s going to play a very special birthday set. Come by to wish him a happy birthday and see what 24 years of DJing talent looks like. Professional.
Opening up the main room is Mike Bee (who’s usually found holding down the Groove Lounge aka back room). We try never to go more than a month without having Mike play for us, and there’s a reason for that: he’s an amazing DJ with a enviously deep collection of vinyl. Mike used to be a record buyer for the famous Amoeba record store, and currently spends his time DJing, collecting music, and running an online record shop known as Vinyl Dreams ( http://on.fb.me/X8h3Sh ). Mike has always exceeded expectations when he has played for us, oftentimes even outperforming our headlining DJs, and causing our little back room to be uncomfortably packed. On this night, we’re having him open the main room, where he can showcase a different side of his record collection for us. Come early, grab some free champagne, and come check out a set you won’t normally hear from Mike at Housepitality.
Finally, in the back room, we have Ray Zuniga, who is Michael Tello’s production/DJ partner (as the duo Signal Flow), and also the co-owner of their Touch Of Class label. Ray also moved away to further his musical career, and while he’s back in town, we’ve nabbed him to hold down the back room.
The details:
FREE before 11pm with RSVP at www.housepitalitysf.com/
otherwise $5 before 11pm, $10 after
FREE champagne from 9pm-10pm
$5 Jameson (with mention of Housepitality discount)

Michael Tello
Michael Tello was born in Hollywood California in 1978. The son of Latin parents with an eclectic taste in music, he was exposed to a wide variety of genres, ranging from the tribal rhythms of South America to the cutting edge, electronic sounds of the early 1980’s. At age 12, Michael’s dad Galo, purchased a DJ set up with turntables, mixer & microphone and asked him to hook it up. After the difficult but intriguing task Michael had found a new interest and love for the art of DJing. He began experimenting with his mom and dads Disco, Salsa and Funk 12” records and 45’s and has been rocking the decks ever since.
At one of his dads legendary house parties in the early 90’s Michael’s cousin gave him a mix tape simply labeled “HOUSE”, he remembers playing it and loving the repetitive Disco / Alternative rhythms and seeing his older cousins and family dance all night. Soon after he decided to check out his local record store and picked up his first 12” records. He started collecting a wide variety of House, Techno, Breaks, Hip Hop and Freestyle. His Junior High had a small DJ program that he joined and began spinning at school dances and local house parties. In High School he was a back up DJ for a 5-person rap group and started to MC himself. That summer he went to a couple of all age club nights and also checked out his first Rave. Inspired by the vibe and energy he decided to start his own crew Circuit Productions, and throw his first underground event when he was only 16. After producing a handful of successful parties the crew parted ways to peruse their own separate dreams. Michael went on to DJ for several promoters, undergrounds, festivals, and club events in and around the LA area. He credits his fine tuned mixing and scratching skills to watching and observing some of his mentor’s Doc Martin, Mark Farina, Little Louie Vega and DJ Dan.
In 1997 before his 18th birthday he took a trip with his friends up to San Francisco so he could experience what all the hype was about. At a legendary Sunset party in the park, he danced to the most amazing House music he had ever heard, and at that moment decided he had found his new home. Shortly after moving to San Francisco he attended the Academy of Art College and studied graphic design. Once in SF he quickly engaged himself by assisting as sound engineer at KUSF’s college radio for a show called “Future Breaks FM” and also sound engineered for SF’s leading Drum & Bass weekly, Eklectik. This brought new opportunities for gigs and helped him make connections in the House community. In 1999 he partnered up with Ramiro Gutierrez and founded “Uniting Souls” a production company that has organized over 700 shows in the US, expanding from San Francisco, Seattle, New York, Miami and Los Angeles, and transformed into one of Seattle’s leading House Record labels. Since his arrival to SF Michael has given back to the community by working as an Outreach Health Worker for youth AIDS and Pregnancy prevention and also founded a DJ/Music Production program for kids 12-18 at the YMCA in SF’s Tenderloin district for under privileged youth. In 2000 he attended Expression’s Center for New Media and got his degree in Audio Engineering. After graduating he interned for Om Records, one of San Francisco’s leading independent labels were he quickly learned the ropes and moved up under the wing of Ryan Raddon (aka Kaskade) and took the torch as Om’s A&R and Production Manager for 2 years. His first remix for King Kooba got lots of play and received great reviews, he followed that with “Barrio Beats” a Latin Down-tempo track that was licensed to Sex in The City, Playboy Mansion PS2 video game and numerous world wide compilations. In 2001 Michael started his own bootleg record label, X-Men Project, with production partner Gilad Gershoni. The label had a few releases but gained worldwide recognition by DJ’s and distributors. Till this day the XMP releases remain timeless and collectors items. He continues to release and DJ for Om Records after leaving the company in 2002 to focus on his music, label and event productions.
His experience comes from collaborating and working with successful companies such as Uniting Souls, Om Records, Flavorgroup, Stompy.com, Gravity Point, Gemini Records and Deepfunk Records. In 2007 he started MVP Entertainment a new company with his fiancé Vanessa Spears. MVP ran one of San Francisco’s leading Wednesday night weekly parties at the Icon Ultra Lounge that featured two rooms of House, Techno, Hip Hop, Old School, Freestyle, Funk and Soul music. After a 2-year run they decided to rap it up on a good note and focused on larger events. Michael spent a lot of 08’ and 09’ managing fundrais- ers for his Burning Man camp, Gravity Point, a collective of 50 people who organized a giant stage at Burning Man for 4 years. Each fundraiser would draw around 800 people and rose close to $15,000 for the camp and are remembered in the SF underground scene.
Michael’s primary music selection ranges from House, Techno, Tech House and Electro. The music he produces can be described as an intelligent blend of House and Latin Jazz fused with deep, soulful, sexy and funky rhythms. Performing mostly as a solo DJ, Michael also tag teams as “Shook Night” with OM Record’s Rob Grega, and “Dawn-a-Tello” with SF’s favorite girl DJ, Dawn of Sound. From time to time you will also see Michael Djing along side live brass instruments, percussions, guitarists and vocalists. To date, Michael has produced well over 30 songs for various record labels such as OM Records, Bombay, XMP, Cadang, Bootshine, Gemini Records and Deepfunk Records. Michael currently lives in Los Angeles with his fiancé and closer to his family where he’s launched his own digital label and podcast, Mai Music. Only 31 and with 19 years experience as a DJ, 13 years producing and 15 years experience throwing managing, and hosting events, skies the limit for this hard working talented soul.
