COVID 19 “Shelter In Place” Housepitality SF Wednesdays – Update & Support Request

Dear Housepitality community:

We are proud to say that we have never missed a single Wednesday night over the past 9 1/2 years. It has taken an epidemic like this to stop us from opening our doors or even considering a live stream. After so much research and consideration we feel that the most responsible thing to do is to follow the CDC recommendations and keep ourselves safe.

What we really want is all of this to blow over so we can get back to rocking the dance floor for San Francisco on Wednesday nights. The only way we really see this happening is to follow to rules of the quarantine and keep each other at our respective distances.

We might do a live streams from one of our abodes but still on the fence about it. The whole idea of Shelter in Place is that we stay away from each other in order to not allow this virus to spread. It is kind of disheartening to see people out and about acting like it is no big deal. We take it very seriously however. We are not trying to get anyone infected, specially our parents or other elders. We urge you all to please limit your contact with others during this time as well.

Back to live streaming, If we do decide to do this know that we will be doing it in the safest way possible. Probably just 2 of us in the same space at at a time and more than 6 feet apart, no contact whatsoever. Anyway, we still haven’t decided if we will live stream, you will be the first to know.

On another note this situation is hitting the crew behind this production pretty hard. It takes a small village to put on this weekly event. Our profile picture only shows part of our crew. We are 12 in total including our door managers.  A few of us have ‘regular jobs’ and are still employed but most of us are contractors or full time service industry folks who are deeply financially affected by this sudden shift. It’s really eye opening and scary how fast our income streams disappeared.

Our crew needs your financial support now more than ever to help relieve us from the extreme high cost of living of San Francisco during the next 3-4 weeks that we are under Shelter In Place orders.  What we plan to do with this money is divide it evenly between all of us who are most affected. We have already identified the ones that are hardest hit from the situation. We know this money will mostly help to relieve us from upcoming March rent, other bills and maybe extra for food to get thru this hardship.

We took the the approximate dollar value needed to survive this period for the items mentioned above and divided it between the number of individuals who are most in distressed right now. That is how we calculated a $10k ask from our community. We really hope this process is only three weeks long and we can get back to business after this.

We also plan on giving a due portion to our regular F8 Wednesday night staff who also heavily depend on this weekly paycheck. Our host F8 Nightclub has their own separate GoFundMe to help their entire staff which you can also help out if you’d be so willing: https://www.gofundme.com/f/f8-staff-fundraiser-for-daily-expenses

It is really humbling to ask you all to help us during this time of need. Having said that we hope that those of you who aren’t financially affected by the current situation are able to help during this time. We are extremely grateful for any support you can provide.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone again in person on a Wednesday night. We want to get back to bringing you the best underground dance music talent from around the globe to enjoy on Wednesdays. We are firm believers in our role in this city to keep the scene fresh in the middle of the week.  The most important thing right now however, is that we take care of ourselves and each other somehow by following “Shelter In Place” rules. We want everyone to be healthy.

Thank you so much for your support.
