EDDIE C INTERVIEW BY SAMMY D

1. Can you tell us about Red Motorbike, your new label imprint?

Here is our mission statement:
Taking it’s inspiration from 1970s Jamaican private record distribution, Red Motorbike is a new 7″ label envisioned by Canadian Downbeat Disco don Eddie C. The label follows hot on the heals of 7 Inches of Love and alongside sister Canuck label Common Edit.  Red Motorbike seeks to continue to dig deep in a Hip Hop tradition to further experiments in underground dance music. Seemingly undefinable scene-wise, this raw hand stamped vinyl-only crew believes in quality music grown out of experiences and an undying love for records and the people who play them.
2. Rumor is your moving to Berlin? How long do you plan on staying there?
Typical isn’t it?  I’m very excited about the move.  I really wish there was more going on in Canada.  I’ll stay there as long as I am still having fun!
3. Which new artist is influencing you at the moment? Is there any specific sound/genre that moves you?
They certainly aren’t new but… The Backwoods, Koosh, Dane, Chida, Andres, Lovefingers, Kenji Takimi, Harvey, Cos/Mes, International Feel, Soft Rocks… and of course loads of older records that I find every day.
4. Parts Unknown is a stellar album. Do plan on producing more or touring more in the next year?
Thanks!  I’m always working on a number of projects at once.  Planning to release a number of things on my own and with some of my favorite labels I’ve already worked with in the past.  There are a number of remixes coming out over the next few months as well.  Hoping all goes well overseas!  It’s worth a shot eh?
5. What’s been your favorite place / gig to play this year and why?

Detroit is kind of always the best.  Probably because I grew up partying there.  Love being given the opportunity to play records there, it’s an honor!  Heading there today in like 5 minutes!  My wife and I are back in Ontario for a bit right now before the move so it’s just a short drive down there (by North American standards).  In Banff, British tourists always used to ask how far away Whistler was.  Anyone that lived there would totally say “Oh, not far at all, ’bout 10 hour drive or so.”
