::ERIC CLOUTIER (The Bunker, Down | New York)::
& producer & live PA techno artist extraordinaire
::CHRISTINA CHATFIELD (Beretta Grey, AYLI | SF)::

We at Housepitality are very excited to bring back two acts who absolutely exceeded expectations in their first appearances for us.

The first is Eric Cloutier, a DJ’s DJ, a master of deep, mature, trippy and beautiful techno and house. His 3 hour set last year simply wasn’t enough; we had to get him back, even if only to hear a new set for ourselves.
In preparation for last year’s appearance, Eric was interviewed by none other than our second headliner Christina Chatfield. Read on to hear how Eric moved from playing drums in a hardcore band to DJing on the most prestigious techno stages all around the world:

Eric Cloutier (The Bunker | Down | NYC) – INTERVIEW by Christina Chatfield

Our second guest on this epic midweek lineup is local hero Christina Chatfield, a pioneering live electronic artist and producer whose sound has done nothing but improve exponentially since the time of her last performance for us. Even as her sound has matured, it has also become even more dance floor-ready. Expect completely mature and beautiful music that will not let your feet or your mind rest, even for a moment.
Before her last appearance, she was interviewed by Housepitality friend, and [Kontrol] curator Greg Bird. Take a few minutes to read up on her approach to music and life in her adopted city of San Francisco:

Eric Cloutier:

Eric Cloutier is born and bred in Michigan, and currently based in Brooklyn, he is one of a new generation of American DJs bridging the gap between dance music’s past and its future. His sets have a sprawling depth and sophistication that fuses the brooding intensity of tripping techno with the mechanic funk of contemporary house.

Cloutier started spinning records in 1996, quickly establishing himself in Detroit’s competitive local scene, holding down residencies at The Necto (Nectarine) and prominent afterhours spot The Works. This led to a job booking Oslo, where he brought the likes of Richie Hawtin, Luciano and Michael Mayer to town, as well as handing out residencies to local legends Three Chairs and Stacey Pullen.

In 2006, Cloutier made the jump to New York and quickly established himself, earning a residency at the premiere monthly techno night The Bunker and mid-week soiree Den of Thieves. He’s also begun his own night, Down, in which he often stretches out to play lengthy sets that showcase his range, effortlessly threading together deeper shades of house and dub-infused techno. Word has been spreading too: 2009 saw Cloutier recording two mixes for the mnml ssgs podcast series, beginning to work in the studio for the first time on his own material, making his European DJing debut and getting tapped to play at Japan’s renowned Labyrinth Festival. That latter honor may be the most telling of all: Only a select few are asked to spin at Labyrinth. (It’s the provenance of studious selectors like Daniel Bell, Donato Dozzy and Peter Van Hoesen.) To not only spin in their company, but to have ably held his own should tell you all you need to know about Eric Cloutier: He’s a DJ for whom quality—above all else—is the watchword.

Christina Chatfield:

Christina Chatfield is a techno and house producer and live performer based out of San Francisco, California.

She is an avid user of both hardware and software in the studio, with the use of analog synthesizers giving her music a unique, organic sound that is her own. Her live sets have garnered near-unanimous praise, earning her a residency with San Francisco event producer As You Like It. Working under her own name and also the pseudonym Anitserk, she has released on Detroit label Beretta Grey, Klectik Records, and Racecar Productions.
